The curtain has fallen on the first season of the wonderful drama The Gods of Wheat Street! Thankfully everything has worked out pretty good for the Freeburn clan. Confirmation came that Ares (Bruce Carter) stole the money from evil super villain Jonesy Brown all those years ago (Frederick Copperwaite) as Isolde (Shari Sebbens) gets into fashion school and needs the tuition fees, Ares tells her where the cash is hidden. Finally, they have some money behind them but Isolde and Libby (Lisa Flanagan) are keeping the secret as to where it came from. Jamie’s return causes great upset for Electra (Rarriwuy Hick) as she punches her mother square in the face as punishment for leaving them and never coming to visit after so many years away in Sydney. Eventually, peace is made as Electra admits she thought her mother left because she didn’t love her anymore. Odin (Kelton Pell) and Jamie admit that it was the issues between the two of them that caused the split and was nothing to do with the girls. Libby is feeling a touch insecure with Jamie’s arrival. She need not worry. Odin tells Jamie straight out that he is with Libby now and puts Libby’s little heart at ease when he tells her he no longer loves his ex-wife. They have a little dance and a pash in the garage as the family watches on. I wasn’t weeping at all. Not. Tristan and Ares get the women of their dreams as Petra (Mouche Phillips) and Anastasia (Millie Samuels) choose love over the household, husband and father that has abused them for far too long. Ares, using bribery, gets out of prison on Parole and Petra is waiting for him when he arrives home. Her husband sits in their home, alone, as he should be. Hopefully he will sell the business and leave Casino. Jerk. Libby finally stands up to her sister, calling her a selfish bitch for leaving her family and makes it clear she is no longer the ‘little sister’ she once was. Libby is my favourite character. She is so gutsy and yet so scared of life at the same time. I admire her strength and her dress sense too, always looking so damn great! In the final scene, once Odie and Libby have finally slept together, Odie awakes from a dream with his mother’s words ringing in his ears ‘One will be born and one will die’. He checks on his girls. So, who will die and why do they have to? Everyone is this show is so attractive and lovely. I want them all to live! I guess we won’t know until next season when we will meet the Freeburns once more and uncover some more truths in Wheat Street, Casino.
